If your divorce is contested we can help you.  We can offer valuable advocacy and guidance with issues such as division of marital property, spousal support, division of real estate and businesses, investments, insurance, pensions, trusts, debt,custody and visitation, and personal property.   A divorce is a judgment by which a marriage is dissolved.  A dissolution of marriage will dissolve the debts and assets of a marriage, determine the custody, care and visitation of the minor children of a marriage, and will grant the parties the legal right to remarry.

DIVORCE in Illinois is called "Dissolution of Marriage.  You have to have been legally married in order to file for Dissolution of Marriage, common law marriage is not recognized in Illinois. 

GROUNDS:  Illinois is a no-fault divorce state, there is no need to prove blame  or to prove that the other spouse is at fault for the failure of the marriage.  According to Illinois law a divorce will be granted if either party can prove that there was an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.

RESIDENCY:  We can file your divorce in Illinois if either you or your spouse currently resides in Illinois.  We can file your divorce in the county where either you or your spouse resides.

LENGTH OF TIME:  The minimum amount of time for obtaining a divorce in Illinois is six months.  In the meantime, we can obtain temporary orders to establish a parenting plan for dependent children, to provide protection or financial support.
